I asked William, as our local bread maker, if he could make a loaf of kolyada bread for the bread-and-salt ritual of welcome for my vigil. For someone who claimed he had never made anything like this before, it turned out amazing. He even made two loaves, just in case. (And practice loaves, of course.) -Sofya la Rus
