  • Halimah is a late 13th Century Mandinkan (Gambian) of royal blood from the Kingdom of Mali, traded to the Arabs by her father. While travelling along the trans Saharan trade route with her new "owner" , learning Arabic through immersion. By the end of the second wave of the Black Death in Europe, Halimah had become a young woman and eventually came to be traded/sold again to a Spanish Lord and lived to serve his household in Barcelona, Spain. Her lord's family moved along the coast into France to a chateau in Toulon.
