- Early 13th Century Englishman living near the village of Stockeley, Oxfordshire, England.
- Norman-English in descent, his 7th great grandfather having come to England with William the Conqueror.
- At a young age he was educated at Eynsham Abbey. His Latin is poor, but he can read and write.
- At age 27 he followed King Richard Lionheart on Crusade as a man at arms. His neck was injured in a fall from a wall, but other than that he urvived with only minor cuts and scrapes.As reward for his service he was given a small plot of land on the edge of Stockley Copse. There he makes his living tending cattle and pigs.
- He serves as a herald for the king when he comes to Woodstock Palace which is within a day's ride of his home.
