Basic Steps


To do it all yourself:
* Put the new page name in the search bar. Really!
* Join the wiki (will need a little time to get approved), and sign in.
* Click on the name in the search results where it prompts to '''Create the page "_____" on this wiki!'''
* Click the + sign next to "Pages and Files" on the upper left hand side menu.
* Insert Template, if appropriate (see below).
* Name your page (use your primary name, properly spelled and capitalized - no titles)
* Type in text as desired.
* Select the "people" template, and
* Insert images (see below).
* "Create" the page.


To edit a page:
* Add relevant categories - Category:People, Category:Vatavian, Category:Scribe, etc. (see below)
* Click on the edit button
* Save the new page.
* After the edit tool bar appears, place cursor wherever on the page you want to add/change text
* Proceed as with any computer word processing document
* Cut, Copy, and Paste shortcuts work as usual (Control-X, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V, respectively)
* Bold, Italics and Underline shortcuts work as usual (Ctrl-B, Ctrl-I, and Ctrl-U)
* Most people don't need any of the funny buttons on the edit toolbar
* Hit the "save" button when you're done, since Ctrl-S does NOT work. :-P


To add an image:
Uploading images:
* Easy way (anyone can do) - copy and paste the image from another website</span>
 
** Find an image on another website that wouldn't violate copyright to add to the wiki (images on the Calontir Armorial are okay, for example)
* You have to be logged into your account to upload images
** Right click on the image
* Click on Insert -> Media on the VisualEditor Toolbar (or the "Upload File" button in the left toolbar in a separate tab)
** Choose the "copy image" option in the dialog box that appears
* Follow the instructions on the Media edit window or Cut and Paste the image file name (Image.gif, etc. ) into the appropriate area (if not using the VisualEditor)
** Paste it into the wiki page (Control-V shortcut)
* Label images as appropriate
* Proper way (only members can do)- upload the image to the wiki then place it on the page</span>
 
** Click the "Insert Images and Files" button on the edit bar (the little picture between the links and the [[File:calontiri/ImageButton.PNG|right|ImageButton.PNG]]widget/TV button, see right)
Make sure to click on any new categories you just created and make sure they're not orphans, i.e. their parent categories are correct.

For now, this wiki is public. Anyone can edit pages although only "members" can create new pages or upload files. Public access will change if the privilege is abused.

Please do not undo the work of others (although feel free to correct spelling mistakes and obvious formatting problems). Make comments or discussion posts if you think more drastic changes are needed.

Please do not put copyrighted material on this wikispace unless you have the rights to it. If you see something here that you believe is in violation of copyright, please inform the "owner", sofya at heraldshill dot org
