Silver Hammer "Scroll"
I was asked to create a leather thing as a Silver Hammer “scroll” by one of my favorite people, HRM Rhianwen, for another of my favorite people, "Gary Fox". Since he’s an amazing leatherworker of his own right, I had to try to make it fancier than he’d take the time to make for himself.
I had made myself one years ago, but didn’t like my closure at the top and I had made the bottom too heavy. Rather than tool designs into thick leather for the bottom, I tooled a very thin piece, then glued it to a second thin piece. I figured that will also help the design to not get stretched and press itself out over time as things push from inside. Now that it’s been presented, I can finally show it off.
The top is silk that Tara Nelson Neese spun and we dyed with Cochineal.
