It was a day that HG Luther and HE Ashir would do battle [at Lilies War] to decide if HG Maerwynn was a Saxon or a Mongol.

Little did either gentlemen know that Her Grace had decided that if anyone would decide, it would be her.

Months before many secret preparations had begun and on this day the fruit of that labor would be revealed! As layon was called, the forces of HG Luther and HE Ashir moved toward one another in what was surely to be an battle to remember even on a normal day.

But as their forces were just steps away from contact, Her Graces plan was cleverly sprung!

A pre-determined hold was called and out of nowhere, Her Grace’s hearth troops sprang from their clever concealed placement and marched forth onto the fields.

Being covered from head to toe in new finely crafted armour, Her Grace bravely maneuvered her troops between HG Luther and HE Ashir’s forces so that she could address both men.

Her Grace removed her helm of expert craftsmanship and addresses those gathered:

“I am Duchess Maerwynn of Holme, fortunate to have been the 50th and 54th queen of this great Kingdom. Both of these men have carried my honor on the field with great prowess and with great chivalry, and much glory did we find together. But, the time for their prowess to determine my fate is past.

Long have I stood on the sidelines of this field, watching, encouraging, supporting, but not today. Today I would join the fray."

[Here there was much cheering and rejoicing!]

“Today I would stand shoulder to shoulder with you, who have so long inspired me. Today, my fate is in my own hands and the hands of those who fight with me. Join me, stand with me, fight by my side!”

Then HG Anton stepped forward with words of his own:

“HG Maerwynn has been both my mother and my daughter…..I stand with her this day!”

I (Halvgrimr) shouted “WHO ELSE FIGHTS WITH MAERWYNN THIS DAY?”

All of those who had come to hold Her Grace in the highest of esteems over the years quickly left the sides they were on and joined Her Grace without hesitation leaving HG Luther and HE Ashir with only their most loyal of troops.

Her Grace’s wordfame was such that this cause both HG Luther and HE Ashir’s forces to be quite obviously outnumbered. I, wanting to ensure fun was had by all, suggested to both commanders that being outnumbered as they were, that they might join forces for this one battle so that the numbers were more even. Both agreed that this would be a right and honorable thing to do.

Before the layon, chants of "Maerwynn" could be heard from all points of the field!

The forces lined up, layon was called and fun was had by all:)

It was one of the most awesome things I have been part of while in the SCA.
