*Mkty Nakhthor, New Kingdom Egypt, Queen Hatshepsut around 1400 BCE
*Who, what, where?

The day was long and boring. Nakhthor wiped the sweat from his brow as he stood at his post making sure no one broke the code of ma’at. The days kind of ran together as during this time, under the rule of Queen Hatshepsut, he found that the artisans seemed to be more active than the military as of late. He longed to one day be able to reach the title of those he looked up to: Medjay (medjai). The Medjay were the top group of protectors that helped to ensure a safe and prosperous Egypt.

After his shift he would collect his pay of beer and bread and make his way to the temple of Edfu, where he would pay his respects to the Falcon God Horus. This meant of course, that he would have to be both physically and mentally clean as he dared not step foot into the shadows of the temple in any way that could dishonor himself or the gods. With a quick wash with natron and water, and some fresh eye makeup, he was able to make his way to the structure. There would be no weapons nor animal hide, skin or parts of any kind allowed in, as this also would be considered “unclean” in the eyes of the gods.  There were plans of this temple being rebuilt to something bigger that would truly honor the gods properly, but for now it was a simple one.

The land of Egypt was changing drastically and gone were the days of training as a small child. He had grown into his position as a soldier and was to be a guard for a bank. The bank was usually where everyone would come to collect their pay for their labor. (This was usually in the form of beer and bread.) Because of this, it was considered a very important post.

His father had retired and was given land. His mother had died in childbirth something that wasn’t all that uncommon. With aspirations to walk in his fathers’ footsteps (and quite the push from his father himself) he began to walk the steps that led to his assignment at the bank. But even he had to admit, some days, he swore he would die of boredom. But it was true work, and one that he knew the gods approved of. And so, he would drink his beer and spend some time honoring Horus and the other gods for providing him with the means to support the Queen as well as the Kingdom as a whole. He would live his life honorably upholding all values of Ma’at herself, so that when the time came, he would pass the tests of the duat, his heart would be lighter than the feather, and he would be able to join his ancestors and walk amongst the field of reeds.
